On the 2022 episode, Hart highlighted one particular venture as the most regrettable: a friend’s company that designed headphones that could open up into speakers. D'Angelo's Legacy Lives On As Streams Of His Music Catalog Soar By Nearly 800% Following His Passing From Pancreatic Cancer

Long live D’Angelo. The “king of neo-soul,” born Michael Eugene Archer in Virginia, was one of a kind, and this was clear in his upbringing in his father’s church. At age 16, he even had his own choir and formed a singing group with his cousins, according to his interview with Wax Poetics in 2020. He continued to nurture his craft and looked to the blueprint of pioneers such as Stevie Wonder. “When it comes to songwriting, I modeled myself after Stevie Wonder. Sometimes you put poetry to beautiful music, and other times you got to come direct,” D’Angelo said, according to Wax Poetics. D’Angelo knew he had talent, and others around him did, too. This recognition likely explains why he dropped out of school as a teenager to break into the music business, CBS News reports. The risk paid off. After being signed to EMI Records, he co-produced Black Men United’s 1994 single “U Will Know,” Variety reports. In 1995, he changed the industry with his debut album “Brown Sugar,” which is...

Authentic Brands’ Reebok Revenue Surges To $5B With Shaquille O’Neal As Its Second-Largest Shareholder

Shaquille O’Neal and Allen Iverson signing on to Reebok has benefited the business. As AFROTECH™ previously reported, O’Neal returned to Reebok in 2023 after walking away from a $40 million deal more than two decades earlier in 1998. He was appointed as Reebok’s president of basketball and has been “very” hands-on, he told Boardroom. “I do everything but nothing,” he said to the outlet. “True leaders don’t micromanage. If I’m gonna start a media company, I’ll call you. You do all the work, I proofread it, say yes or no, and we move on from there.” One of O’Neal’s strategic decisions was onboarding Angel Reese, who signed the company’s first major name, image, and likeness (NIL) deal. Now in the WNBA, representing the Chicago Sky, Reese dropped her signature shoe line with Reebok on Sept. 18, under a multiyear contract extension, and it sold out within hours of launching, CBS Sports reports. This affirms O’Neal’s priorities when he joined Reebok. “It’s all about product, players, and...

The disclosure comes amid legal disputes over the estate’s management, including so-called attorney “premium payouts.” The Oct. 14 filing follows Paris’ June challenge to $625,000 in payments made in 2018 to three law firms for work that was not recorded. She argued the payments were excessive and lacked proper documentation of time spent, raising questions about oversight and transparency. The estate’s executors state that their management transformed Michael Jackson’s holdings from a debt-heavy estate at the time of his death into a $2 billion enterprise. The filing notes the legal team’s role in generating significant returns, including $287.5 million from EMI Music Publishing investments sold to Sony Music Group in 2018, as AFROTECH™ previously reported. “Few have benefited more from the Executors’ business judgment than...
