Dr. Bernice A. King is raising concerns about the use of AI videos.
Sam Altman’s OpenAI launched Sora 2 on Sept. 30. According to a description in a press release, it is an AI-powered video generation model that promises to be “accurate, realistic, and more controllable than prior systems.” It claims to offer clear improvements in background soundscapes, speech, and sound effects.
Furthermore, users can place “elements of the real world into Sora 2.”
“For example, by observing a video of one of our teammates, the model can insert them into any Sora-generated environment with an accurate portrayal of appearance and voice. This capability is very general, and works for any human, animal or object,” a description of Sora 2 reads.
Already, the platform has been used to create content featuring copyrighted characters such as SpongeBob SquarePants, South Park, Pokémon, and Rick and Morty, according to The Guardian. Users have also used it on real historical figures such as Malcolm X and Martin Luther King Jr. (MLK), shown below eating a seafood boil.

Dr. Bernice King has responded to the matter, echoing the sentiments of Zelda Williams, daughter of the late actor Robin Williams. Zelda requested in an Instagram story that fans not send her AI videos of her father, The Wrap reports.
“Stop believing I wanna see it or that I’ll understand, I don’t and I won’t,” Zelda wrote. “If you’re just trying to troll me, I’ve seen way worse, I’ll restrict and move on.”
She continued, “But please, if you’ve got any decency, just stop doing this to him and to me, to everyone even, full stop. It’s dumb, it’s a waste of time and energy, and believe me, it’s NOT what he’d want.”
Dr. Bernice King shared the commentary from a Variety story on Instagram and commented, “I concur concerning my father. Please stop.”
Regarding Sora 2, Altman said he has considered the responses from users, rightsholders, and other interested groups. He plans to “give rightsholders ‘more granular control’ over generation of characters, similar to the opt-in model for likeness but with ‘additional controls,'” according to The Guardian.
Altman said that because of the large volume of content produced on Sora 2, the company will earn money from the video creation and will try to share revenue with rightsholders who want their characters generated by users.
