If you’ve bought household items, fitness gear or tech accessories from Costco in the last few years, now is the time to double-check your purchases.

The company announced on its website that several manufacturers have issued product recalls for some of their products, issuing a warning that urges customers to stop using the products immediately due to safety concerns.

The recalls affect a range of popular items, including air conditioners, dumbbells, power banks, and even tires.

Here’s a closer look at the items being pulled from shelves, the associated risks, and how to handle them if you have one of these products at home.

Danby Air Conditioners Could Pose Mold Risk

One of the most urgent recalls comes from Midea America Corp., which is recalling its Danby U-shaped window air conditioners sold at Costco between June 10, 2021, and Feb. 2, 2022.

The company said the units may retain standing water that doesn’t drain properly, creating an ideal environment for mold to grow inside the appliance.

Mold exposure can trigger respiratory issues, particularly for people with allergies, asthma or a compromised immune system.

The affected model number is DAC080B6IWDB-6. Midea is asking customers to stop using the units immediately and is offering a free repair kit, a prorated refund, or a full refund if the unit is returned to a Costco warehouse.

BowFlex Dumbbells May Malfunction

Johnson Health Tech Trading, the manufacturer of BowFlex 552 adjustable dumbbells, is recalling the product after receiving reports of weight plates slipping off the handle mid-use, Newsweek reported.

This kind of malfunction isn’t just inconvenient—it’s dangerous, especially during a workout. Costco is offering full refunds for returned dumbbells.

Anker Power Banks Recalled Over Battery Concerns

Anker is voluntarily recalling its Model A1257 power banks (10,000mAh, 22.5W) due to concerns about potential battery issues. This announcement comes just weeks after the tech brand pulled more than 1 million Anker PowerCore 10000 units from the market. That recall followed 19 reported cases of fires and explosions, as AFROTECH™previously reported.

The company states that the risk of malfunction is low, as the power banks were manufactured by a single vendor with quality control concerns. Anker is recalling them out of caution.

Customers who own the affected model can submit proof of purchase to receive a free replacement.

Michelin Tires Don’t Meet Federal Safety Standards

Newsweek also reports that even your vehicle might be affected by the recent Costco product recalls. Michelin has recalled certain Agilis CrossClimate C-Metric tires in the size 185/60R15C after discovering they don’t meet federal safety regulations.

Specifically, parts of the tread rubber may separate from the tire’s shoulder, which could increase the risk of a crash. If you have these tires, Michelin is offering free replacements through its retailer network.

How To Handle Costco Product Recalls

If any of these items sound familiar, now’s the time to act. Manufacturers are offering refunds, repair kits, and replacements. Many customers can get these by simply returning the product to a Costco warehouse or by directly contacting the manufacturer.

Product recalls highlight that safety extends beyond major headlines, impacting everyday items such as home cooling systems, phone chargers, and fitness equipment.
