Chris Paul has expanded his investment portfolio.
Drafted in 2005 by the New Orleans Hornets, Paul has earned $400.9 million in on-court salary, according to Spotrac.
As AFROTECH™ previously reported, the 12-time NBA All-Star suggested at this year’s American Black Film Festival that his NBA career may be nearing its end. He predicted he would play for a year “at the most.”
When Paul’s time on the court concludes, he will have even more time to dedicate to his footprint as an entrepreneur and serial investor. His portfolio includes Ohh Dip!!! Entertainment, a full-service media production company that “specializes in non-scripted and scripted television, digital, documentaries, commercials, and films,” according to the organization’s website.
Now, Paul has secured a minority stake in the Angel City Football Club (ACFC). According to a press release, the team is valued at $280 million, making it one of the most valuable women’s sports teams.
Paul joins the investment group that includes Solina Chau, philanthropist and co-founder of Horizons Ventures; Ina Coleman, organizational development consultant and diversity champion; and Paul Bernon, an entrepreneur and film producer.
“It’s an incredible honor to join Angel City FC as an investor and owner,” Paul said in a statement, per the news release.
“Being able to join ACFC is not only an amazing opportunity, it’s a chance to support women’s sports and help drive positive change,” he continued.
Controlling Owner Willow Bay expressed excitement for the team’s new investors, noting their shared values with ACFC.
“Chris, Solina, Ina, and Paul exemplify the values and vision that define ACFC. Their outstanding leadership across business, sport, advocacy, and social impact makes them ideal partners as we continue building a world-class club that is forward-thinking, inclusive, and ambitious. We are proud to welcome them to the Angel City family at such a transformational moment for our team and the future of women’s soccer,” she said, per the press release.
