This Lagos, Nigeria-based startup has secured millions for its innovative approach to delivering everyday essentials.
Founded in 2021 by Femi Aluko, Olumide Ojo, and Lanre Yusuf, Chowdeck is a tech company that provides logistics services to food and hospitality vendors across 11 Nigerian and Ghanaian cities. It also makes it easier for customers to receive meals, groceries, everyday essentials, and medicine in around 30 minutes.

According to a press release shared with AFROTECH™, it has reached 1.5 million customers and over 20,000 riders to date and projects to have a record-breaking year in 2025 after growing sixfold last year compared to 2023. To position growth in more cities in the countries mentioned and find further success, Chowdeck acquired Mira, a point-of-sale (POS) solutions company, for an undisclosed amount in June, according to Techpoint Africa. This was to enhance customer experiences and improve its technology.
$9M Raise
Additionally, Chowdeck has closed a $9 million Series A round led by Novastar Ventures. Y Combinator, AAIC Investment, Rebel Fund, GFR Fund, Kaleo, HoaQ, and others participated in the round. This will allow it to focus on quick commerce by increasing the speed of its delivery of goods and items through dark stores and hyperlocal logistics.
“We’re thrilled about this round as it brings us closer to our vision of becoming Africa’s number one super app, transforming how millions of Africans access food, groceries and essentials every day,” Aluko said in a news release. “This funding will supercharge our growth plans, enabling us to expand into more cities, reduce delivery times, scale our grocery footprint, and attract the best talent to drive innovation and customer satisfaction.”
Brian Waswani Odhiambo, Partner at Novastar Ventures, commented:
“Chowdeck is building the future of logistics for African cities by creating a platform that benefits consumers, vendors and riders alike. With deep local insight, a sustainability-first approach and impressive execution, Chowdeck is redefining last-mile delivery on the continent. We’re very excited to partner with Chowdeck in this next phase of growth as it scales its offering and helps create a more inclusive, sustainable and efficient urban economy.”
